COMPRESSION STOCKING THERAPY

Taking Better Care of Your Legs

Our pharmacists are certified compression stocking fitters and can provide you with custom-made and fitted compression stocking for both you and your family.

If you experience any of the following, compression stocking may be beneficial:

  • Always use rubber gloves! The gloves allow you to smooth the stockings on rather than pinching and grabbing them with your fingers. This is easier and more comfortable.
  • Powder can be applied to the foot if it is moist and slippery.
  • Gradually pull the stocking over the toes and foot, work the stocking up the leg until smooth.
  • Bring a little more of the stockings onto the foot and work it up the leg until smooth.
  • Continue to do this until the stocking is in position.
  • Do not pull on stocking as this will stretch it in length.
  • Position the stockings in place and smooth any excess material.
  • Do not have wrinkles in the fabric or folds.

There are also various devices to help apply stocking. Talk to your pharmacist when you come in for fitting for more information, or if you already wear them, give us a call for advice with any issues.

To remove:

  • Use lukewarm water and mild soap. We recommend the stocking wash solution.
  • Rinse well.
  • Hang to air dry in a shaded area.
  • Do not place the stocking in a dryer or in direct sunlight.
  • Important! When washing compression stocking with a washer, be sure to only use the gentle wash cycle of your machine, then air dry.

Want to know more?

  • When you first begin to wear compression stockings, try to wear them for two to four hours on the first day and increase the time you wear them each day to allow your body to adjust to them and avoid discomfort. Occasionally, some first-time wearers will experience some discomfort and compression pressure in the legs.
  • If you experience numbness in your feet and/or toes while wearing your compression stocking, and you have not had any numbness prior to stocking wear, please remove them and contact your pharmacist before continuing wear.
  • If you experience skin redness and itchiness while wearing the stocking, it is possible you may have an allergy causing these symptoms, please remove them and contact your pharmacist before continuing wear.

If you are Interested in compression stockings or already have a prescription from your physician for compression therapy, feel free to come in and speak with our home healthcare staff who can help you choose the right option. They will also make sure the fit is just right for maximum comfort as well as compression therapy improvement, hopefully to help you enjoy wearing them rather than dread putting them on.

Compliance Packaging

No matter how effective a medication may be, it will be of little use if it’s not taken or administered properly. Medication management; getting the right drug, to the right patient, in the right dosage and at the right time, is one of the most challenging areas of healthcare management. Our pharmacists specialize in medication delivery systems and are committed to eliminating the opportunity for medication errors, to make medication management as easy and straight-forward as possible. Our systems help ensure that people receiving or self-administering their medications get the right drug at the right time – whether they are at home or in a care setting.

The Pharmacy Pill Pak System is ideal for customers who have difficulty with medication compliance. Each of our pharmacies prepare each Pill Pak blister to contain all the oral, solid mediations for each major time of day when you administer medications. For more information or to enroll in the Compliance Packaging program please give our pharmacies a call to chat with our staff.

Here are some helpful tips for when returning your unused medication to your pharmacist:

  • When returning needles, they must be in a SHARPS container and not mixed with any other medications.
  • If returning liquids and powders, please leave them in the original packaging.
